To improve the elderly meal service is an effective measure to truly implement elderly care service and enhance the sense of gain and happiness for the elderly. To upgrade and renovate 8 elderly canteens (meal service points) has been included into the municipal-level livelihood projects of our district this year. As of now, the completion rate in our district has reached 100%, and the task has been done ahead of schedule.

This year, the 8 improvement and renovation project sites include the elderly canteens at Junliang Community of Chengxiang Street, the Worker’s Road Community of Beijian Sub-district,  Xianghu Nanyuan of Wenyan Sub-district, Huafeng Village of Jinhua Town, Jishan Village of Jinhua Town, Daqiao Village of Heshang Town, Zixia Village of Heshang Town, and Lingshan Village of Puyang Town.

In recent years, our district has actively built an elderly meal service system with elderly canteens as the main body, supplemented by other meal assistance models and involved extensive participation from social forces. As of now, there are 230 meal service institutions in our district, including 137 elderly canteens, 68 meal service points, and 25 elderly dining tables.

With the continuous optimization of the service network and supply model, as well as the further improvement of operation mechanism, our district has released "Xiao Shan Yang" brand, drawn up "The Distribution Map of Elderly Meal Service Institutions in Xiaoshan District", issued "Work Guidelines for "Xiao Shan Yang" Elderly Meal Service (Trial)", and established five service models in an innovative manner: self-sufficiency, centralized delivery, insertion of catering stores, radiation of elderly care institutions, and meal sharing at unit canteens. In 2024, the elderly meal service reached 5.2 million person-times, with an average daily service for 15,000 elderly person-times, effectively solving the "dining problem" for the elderly.
